El Niño is a seasonal climate signal. It does not guarantee rain or flooding at your property.

AWC FIELD GUIDES

Turn the forecast into a property check.

Welcome the rain with a plan for where the water should go. These AWC guides explain what to observe safely and when a recurring problem needs an evaluation.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Questions, answered.

Does El Niño mean my San Diego property will flood?

No. El Niño describes conditions in the tropical Pacific and can influence seasonal weather. It does not predict flooding at a particular property. Local rainfall, drainage, slope, vulnerable openings and official short-term alerts matter for the next storm.

How often does this weather section update?

The page checks official sources when opened. While visible, it refreshes the weather every five minutes and the NOAA El Niño advisory every hour. NWS issues forecasts and alerts on its own schedule; NOAA normally issues its ENSO discussion monthly. Source dates and check times are shown. If a feed is unavailable or too old, the page says so and provides an official source link.

Does the forecast cover my exact address?

Each selection represents one city-center forecast point: San Diego, Santa Ana for Orange County, Los Angeles, or Riverside for the Inland Empire. Conditions and alerts can differ elsewhere in the region. Follow the National Weather Service link and enter your location for a property-specific forecast.

What should I check before the next rain?

From safe, dry ground, look for blocked private drains, downspouts discharging toward the building, known low points, and past entry paths at garage doors, windows or walls. Document what you can safely see. Recurring drainage or leak problems may need an onsite evaluation and a defined repair scope.
